Use Google URL Shortener To Market Your Content
Feel a bit stretched on all the social media platforms you're supposed to be on? I have a very simple, easy and effective way to figure out which social media platform is worth your time, and which one is best left for someone else.
It can be so hard to be up on every social media channel and know which one is going to give you a return on investment. Google URL Shortener is your new best friend. The lovely Jaina introduced me to this tool last year when I worked with her in a Social Media and Marketing role.
Using a Google URL Shortener to market you content is the biggest revelation I ever had as a social media manager. It tells you exactly how many hits you've had on a particular link, so you can shorten the same link and use it on different platforms to figure out which platform is bringing you the most traffic.
1) Input your Link into Google URL Shortener and click Shorten URL.
2) This gives you a shortened URL to use.
3) Copy the Shortened URL and input it into your Social Media channel.
4) Make a note of the URL and track the hits in a spreadsheet.
I wrote down all the social media channels I used the Google URL for that one post and tracked which ones did best. As you can see Twitter and Google+ have done super well, so I'll be optimising them a bit more. Unfortunately, Instagram didn't do so well on this occasion, so I'll work on this next time.
That's it! Super simple and an easy way to track which social media channels work for you.
