Asian Bridal Hair & Makeup Course @ London School of Makeup

Since I completed the Beginners Professional Makeup Course which I reviewed earlier, I've been saving my energies for the Asian Bridal Hair & Makeup Course at the London Makeup School.

I finally completed the course in October. I was the only student due to the other student being ill, so I got an intensive 1 to 1 class with my tutor Hena throughout! The course focuses on Asian Bridal Hair & Makeup techniques covering registry, traditional and reception looks. As anyone who's ever looked at any images or been part of an Asian wedding knows, the looks are high impact, flawless and generally amazing to behold.

They are tricky to master if you've never done it before which is why the Beginners Professional Makeup course was a requirement. I didn't have any hair styling experience, but this was not a hindrance, as the course teaches you the basic hairstyles, and it's up to you how you progress forward with your own creativity.

As before, I will go through the looks on a day by day basis, and review the course at the end.

Day 1

The first day I met with Hena again, and we went through the course outline and what I was going to learn. Then she picked out a simple registry look and showed me how to create it whilst I took notes. The first 3 days would focus on makeup, so I was straight in and it was like riding a bike! It came back slowly, but I did manage to create a simple fresh look.

We then did a more traditional red and gold look in the afternoon whilst still looking quite fresh.

On Day 2, we again did more traditional Indian Bridal looks with heavy coverage cream foundation. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan, but it's always good to know how to do it.

The second half of the day, we did a reception look and played with glitters, which was my favourite part of the course! I loved creating this gorgeous blue look on my model.

Day 3

On the third day, we started off with a Smokey Eye look for a reception, which looked absolutely amazing. From far away, the eyes look completely black, but it's actually a very dark green with some glitter pigments which twinkle away in the light.

In the afternoon, we focussed on learning to curl the hair with straighteners (known as GHD curls) which actually means the curls hold for much longer than traditional barrel curls. I wasn't very good with them, but I did learn by the end of the course.

Day 4

On Day 4 we concentrated on bridal hair styles, we once again did some GHD curls, and then created a simple style by twisting the curls and adding flower pins. Then we piled up the hair into a messy bun and added a flower adornment for a registry wedding.

In the afternoon we brushed out the curls, and I requested to learn this wave hairstyle that is in the first picture. It looked really complicated, but when it came to it, it was really simple. Then we did a French twist and finally a full bun.

When working with longer hair, it was more difficult, but really good practice and a good way to grasp all the techniques.

Day 5

On the 5th day, we started to use hair pieces and were able to create some gorgeous braided styles, although my attempts at a fishtail braid were epic fails! Hena tried her best to teach me and get me to master it, but we both agreed, I needed a lot more practice.

The first look is a roll with a braided hair to create a pretty up do. The second hair style was created using the GHD curls to create a messy bun style and finally we did some curls using a traditional curler. I was much better at this than the GHD ones!

Day 6

On the final day, I was asked to create a full bride. Unfortunately, my tutor had another class to do, so I was in Saima's capable hands. In the morning we practiced high bun hair styles with a donut bun, and in the afternoon, I created this pink and gold look for our lovely model.

Since I was so slow, I didn't get a chance to do a hair style, but overall still really happy with the look.

In summary, I would say this is a fantastic course for anyone wanting to specialise in Asian or Indian Bridal Hair & Makeup.

Pros - You get a knowledgeable tutor and models every day to practice on and support after the course ends.

Cons - I wish it was longer! I really miss going in and learning new things, and getting to hang out and learn with the tutors.

As it is 6 days, I think it's quite an intense whirlwind, but if you're taking time off from a day job, then it can get a bit overwhelming so take lots of notes and pictures.

My advice would be to have some ideas in your head of what you want to learn so you can maximise your time with the tutors and get more out of it. Practice beforehand so you have an idea as to what you need help with. My eyeliner work still needs work, but at least I know I'm confident with the other parts.
