London Halal Food Festival

London Halal Food Festival

London just had it's first Halal Food Festival. This is an event myself and Mr. T have been looking forward to for months.

Halal Food Festival

We weren't able to attend the Muslim Lifestyle Show, but the same organisers held the UK's first Halal Food Festival in Tobacco Dock. The event continues tomorrow so if you wish to go, either buy online tickets or you can buy on the door.

So, is it worth it?

I have mixed feelings about it. As a major foodie and someone coming from West London, it was a trek taking about 1.5 hours just to get to the venue. When we got near it, we found the Northern line was closed so we had to take a diversion and get the Piccadily line to Holborn then the Central line to Bank and finally the DLR to Shadwell after which it was a 5-minute walk to the venue.

When we got in, we showed our tickets, and were given wristbands and ushered in.

We had the 3 pm tickets because neither one of us was willing to get up early on a Saturday. The place certainly had an atmosphere, and some stalls were busier than others but the place was PACKED!

Some stalls had run out of food which was disappointing, so I recommend going before lunch if you can.

Most of the food stalls were outside and every dish was priced between £5 - 7.

The Stalls

The festival had a plethora of stalls with food ranging from Sushi Burritos from YakiMaki to burgers, fried chicken, Bombay Street food to wraps.

Halal Food Festival - Nomad Caravan

Nomad Caravan was our first stop for lunch. We both opted for a Moorish Chicken wrap which was absolutely delicious. Sadly we were so hungry, we didn't take any photos.

The Datery

The Datery sells hand-crafted luxury Dates covered in chocolate. We bought a box for ourselves as they were delicious and the stall owner was so nice and let us try some out. I'd recommend visiting them if you go.

Is it worth it?

Halal Food Festival - Humaira Tobacco Dock

Yes and No. For me personally, it was a little too far and we were pretty much done in an hour. The prices were a little much, and there weren't enough samples to make it worth your while if you're coming from far away.

I also think we should support these kind of events as well so more halal friendly events inspire people to support the muslim pound, which as we saw at the MLE event is HUGE.
